Life of a Honeybee

There once was a honeybee named Honey. Fresh from the care of the momma bees and her actual mother bee, the Queen bee, she was ready to explore the world. All she had been taught was work for the queen, pollinate for the queen, bring food for the queen. Everything

was for the queen. Couldn’t there ever be something for her?

Honey was able to go out on duty to pollinate, only on Thursdays, and the occasional Sunday. All the other days she stuck at the hive, caring for the new larvae and aiding in the queens every need. She loved Thursdays. Her day to be free. Explore.

Today just so happened to be Thursday, and she could hardly wait to bust out of the hive, after a particular long week. At first light, she buzzed out, ready to explore.

The smells, colors, shapes, textures, were what Honey lived for. On this particular day, she chose to go explore in a new area. To see if there were better flowers there of course, but also for her own exploration. This new area was very interesting. Little flowers but a lot of big, hairless creatures. All them seemed emotionless, there was no sense of wonder on their face. Just them getting from point A to point B. So….boring.

Then when she thought all hope was lost, she spotted a particularly beautiful scenery. And she decided to buzz right to it. Hoping to escape this world of nothingness, she went full-force towards it, only to be stopped abruptly by what seemed to be an invisible screen. What just happened? She tried again and again, but it was no use, she was stopped every time.

Honey chose to move on, despite her draw towards this beautiful scenery. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the most beautiful flowers she had ever seen. The colors were so vibrant and entrancing. They stood so tall, as if they could never be moved. She raced towards them, thinking that these would be the best find today, probably with the best nectar and pollen. She was motivated. As Honey went up to these flowers, she noticed something strange. Everything was too perfect. And there was no smell.

Honey continued to investigate. What kind of flowers were these? Did they have secret password? Honey found that they were fake. What kind of psychopath would put out fake flowers, she thought. What a strange area.

Honey was lost. Confused. How could a world that seemed so wonderful and fantastical, be so incredibly disappointing and fake? Honey thought it best to return to the hive for the day. She had seen enough.

Compared to these creatures and this strange world, she realized she loved her life of selflessness for her queen. Honey was able to explore, albeit only once a week, but still extremely fascinating. It was a perfect schedule for her. Honey learned to count her blessings. Her life was her own, and it was a good one.
